Courtney Greenberg, Activity Director, joined our facility in September 2013. She was transferred from one of our sister facilities and she has been a welcomed addition. Along with her assistant, Melissa Cano, who has been with our facility for five years, they create a monthly program with the help of our residents. The monthly program is placed on a calendar and posted in each resident’s room. In addition, a large monthly calendar is posted at our north station and our south station for easy viewing by our residents, their families, and our staff.
The monthly activity program includes special occasions as well as the routine programs loved most by our residents. Some of these include:
- Monthly birthday party
- Monthly cooking class
- Monthly special occasion celebration
- Bingo twice a week
- Pretty nails once a week
- Arts and crafts twice a month
- Movie time weekly
Our facility’s favorite activities occur on Mother’s Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Eve. On these holidays we invite our resident’s families to join their loved one for a wonderful luncheon prepared by our dietary staff. We also have a great 4th of July party with all the trimmings-but this event is only for our residents and staff.
Once a month, during our special occasion celebration, we design a party celebrating a special theme or occasion. This can include be a 50’s sock hop with Elvis as our entertainment or a casino night. We look for ways to celebrate anything.
We really enjoy celebrating our resident’s birthdays, and there is nothing better than recognizing a resident’s 100+ birthday. We have held tea parties, chocolate parties, or whatever the centenarian prefers. We invite our local dignitatires, the Mayor of Glendora is especially responsive to our requests, the local newspaper, family, and friends in celebration of this exciting and honorable event.
